Fall back in love with your job

valentines

Because whilst it's great to celebrate your chosen one, we think it's also pretty important (with a capital I) to have some love in your job...

Why should you love your job? Well looking at the very basics, it's where you spend a majority of your time and energy.  It certainly doesn't make sense to be miserable for this significant amount of hours.  And of course more importantly, happiness is good for your soul, and you.

Sometimes just like real relationships, it's time to call it quits and move on. But sometimes you can re-group and re-find the love. It's easy to get frustrated, bored or unhappy in work so resignation may seem the easiest option, but if you register, that like other areas of your life their are bound to be peaks and troughs; working through the problems to reignite your passion could also be the answer.

How to fall back in love with your job:

1, You loved it once:
Remember that first day or first month when it was all exciting and you got a flutter at the base of your tum. Meetings thrilled you, the atmosphere gave you a buzz and you were inspired by all your colleagues. Think back to what made you tick and how it may have changed. What's missing now and try and address these changes?

2, A change of scene:
Make a small change to your environment whether it's an office, a single desk, a front reception desk or kitchen, change can ignite an interest again and make you feel like you are somewhere different or new - it's certainly worth a go. Small changes can make a big impact.

3, Do you feel valued?
Look at the impact you make to your business. Job satisfaction and fulfilment is accountable for a lot of job happiness. If you feel valued and can see your worth, you can banish negative vibes more easily.  Pin point the areas of your job you love and those that you don't think you are quite 'accomplishing'. Spend more time on the jobs you love (ensuring you are not slipping on any job responsibilities) giving them real focus and time, and establish areas of improving those that are not quite ticking all your boxes. Sometimes it's simply a case of confidence.

4, Recognise and address:
Communicate with your boss. Frequently it's only at Exit Interview where you download and talk about all the things you hate about your role. Stop right there and get it all out before the exit interview and more than likely your boss will accommodate you and ensure changes are made to ensure you are motivated once again. You can take on more responsibility or often those tasks that you do not enjoy, sometimes they can be passed on to a colleague who would welcome the opportunity. Your boss wants you to be happy to get the best output from you.

5, Take a break:
We don't mean swan off to the Caribbean for endless sunshine... we mean just be kind to yourself. Exhaustion contributes to job hatred so make sure you take a lunch break, get some fresh air, move your legs and get away from your place of work. Re-charge those batteries.

6, Build new relationships:
You can often see your work colleagues more than you see your own family. Seeing the same faces every day can often be rather mundane. Mix things up. Create social opportunities or team up with someone new in your job.

7, Be realistic:
Life is very rarely all roses and unicorn rainbows. You will have bad days. Accept and put all your energies into a better next day.

And to top all this off on this romantic, loving day. we have found countless quotes just reiterating just how important it is to love your job:

"To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work."

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is love what you do" - A man after our very own Leisurejobs motto, Steve Jobs.

"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love.  Don't make money your goal, instead pursue the things you love and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you."
