Reporting to: Course & Grounds Director
Hours of work: 40 hours a week 6am – 2.30pm plus some weekend working
The Roehampton Club is a private members multisport club based in South-west London to include: an 18-hole golf course and driving range, 11 grass and 15 synthetic tennis courts, 4 croquet lawns, and formal gardens.
We require a full-time qualified Gardener to join our Course and Grounds maintenance department; reporting to the Course and Grounds Director. The formal gardens are undergoing an improvement programme and we are looking to recruit someone with the ability to deliver high quality work to assist us with this process.

Duties
Tasks will vary on a daily basis as determined by the Head Gardener and will include:
- Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, blowing and planting.
- Maintain prorogation unit, ‘poly tunnel’ and nursery frames. Watering, weeding and fertilizing duties to maintain and promote health of the plants.
- Lawn maintenance and cultivation – Mowing with pedestrian cylinder or rotary machines / seeding and fertilizer application.
- The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery and plant. For example, hedge trimming, blowing debris and strimming grass areas with line trimmer.
- The work is seasonal and varies dependent on the time of the year and the weather conditions but inevitably is working outside in a garden environment. Work is task orientated and will revolve around the detailed schedule.
- The schedule may well be group activities or lone working dependent on the task to be completed.
- It may be necessary to work under the One Team ethos and assist the other sections of the Department, when called upon to do so under the direction of your supervisor or the Course & Grounds Manager.
- To be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health & Safety at Work legislation.
- To ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure.
- To keep the work and welfare facilities, tool sheds and staff toilets clean and tidy.
- To be aware of and report any security risks posed within the club.
- To apply chemicals where appropriate and possess or be working toward chemical application licences.
- To undergo training as required.
- To keep the gardens, thoroughfares and highway footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
- To carry out gritting, salt spreading, snow cleaning, as necessary, including highway footpaths through the club.
Person Specification
You’ll need to be a very motivated and productive individual, with a wide range of experience in general gardening management as well as offering basic formal qualifications.
- NVQ or City & Guilds level 2 Horticulture or above
- PA1, PA2, PA6a spraying certificates (desirable)
