The purpose of Sports Direct Training & Development department is to ensure that all staff have the skills and knowledge to do their jobs effectively and to encourage each individual staff to develop themselves to achieve their full potential.
Our staff are key to the success of Sports Direct and our Training & Development activities reflect the importance that we place on these individuals.
The strength of our Sports Direct lies in the professional competence of all staff. We therefore encourage all staff to take an active interest in our business, and improve their knowledge and skills that are specific to their current and future job roles. We encourage and support all workers to further their careers, through the provision of regular training activity and continuous development opportunities.
Management Development
A number of activities are available for our teams to attend to help improve their skills and knowledge. These include operational Master-classes which focus on specific departments within our stores and the expertise needed to effectively manage such departments. Specialist development courses are also available to keep our teams informed on recent legislation across many areas of the business.
'Home Grown' Talent Management Scheme
A key resource within The Sports Direct Division, are those team members who want to progress into Branch Management. We recognise that progression is vital to any succession plan. Therefore a key training priority is to assess, identify, train and develop those who display the desire and potential to become effective Branch Managers. There is an annual intake onto our “Home Grown” Talent Management Scheme and once completed, trainees are encouraged to apply for Store Management vacancies which are suitable.
Promoted Staff
If they are not part of the “Home Grown” scheme, promising team members are identified for special attention in order to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the new role as early as possible. When a promotion opportunity arises and a suitable person is identified the line manager will ensure they are given every opportunity to develop and are as prepared as possible to take over the new role effectively.
Product Training
We hold training events in conjunction with many of the major brands we stock too. The training days are designed to develop superior product knowledge on our wide range of products to improve sales and increase the opportunity to earn from the 5 Star commission scheme.
