A permanent vacancy has arisen for a Maintenance Manager to join the team at YHA Bristol.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to work alongside the Regional Building Surveyor to agree and implement a scheduled improvement plan for the hostel.

The Role: Maintenance Manager

As Maintenance Manager you’ll play a key role in supporting the ‘Safe and Well Managed Buildings Programme’ where you will undertake a structured approach to keeping your designated hostel(s) in a good state of repair through, Identifying, planning, procuring, or undertaking repairs and maintenance. You will, where appropriate, co-ordinate and oversee volunteer workers to support hostel repairing and maintenance operations and provide a first-class approach to improve hostel standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering a first-class maintenance service to your designated hostel(s)
• Working with your Regional Building Surveyor to agree and implement a scheduled improvement plan, with particular focus on bedroom standards, and the Customer Journey
• Detecting and diagnose first-line building faults and failures, actioning repairs, using Access Maintain, enabling the management of emergency, planned and reactive maintenance.
• Monitoring stock levels of common spare items, e.g. light bulbs, fuel etc, replenishing as required.
• Monitoring heating plant and equipment to ensure it is operating efficiently and effectively and arrange for qualified contractor support to progress any repairs required.
• Providing support and oversee external contractors on site where required.
• Attend the six-monthly maintenance meetings as directed.
• Minor repair and maintenance works as directed by your RBS, including: -
• Painting and decorating to the agreed standards and specification.
• Joinery
• Plumbing, e.g. unblocking toilets, washbasins, showers etc.
• Maintenance of bathroom fittings, e.g. sealant repair, re-grouting etc
• Changing light bulbs, fuses etc

What Skills and Experience We Value

• You will have a ‘can do attitude’ taking pride in ensuring your hostel is always looking its best.
• You’ll risk assess allocated maintenance/repair work and carry it out safely, following YHA procedures, retaining site-based records for inspection/audit by both internal representatives and external statutory authorities.
• You’ll comply with YHA’s policies and procedures in working safely and managing risk to customers, employees, volunteers, and contractors whilst working in line with our environmental and sustainability targets, applying YHA’s values in meeting our environmental objectives.
• You’ll provide safe and clear access to the hostel building and grounds, particularly in adverse weather conditions, e.g. clearing snow, gritting etc.  utilising external contractors available for trades, such as gas, electric and other specialist works.
