Franco's Restaurant London

Good afternoon readers, this week we have taken a recommendation from James in Woking who asked us to check out Franco’s, near Green Park who specialise in modern Italian cuisine and is apparently the first Italian restaurant in London!

The Review – Franco’s

Franco’s had plenty of four and five star reviews on TripAdvisor, so after a bit of pre eating research, I was expecting a real treat! I had a good look around online too, which offered up gorgeously festive images – so being a huge Christmas fan, I was excited to get along and see what all the fuss was about. Quite a few foodies have even described it as the best Italian in London – high praise indeed.

We went along mid November and the restaurant was already getting in the festive mood, it seemed. The service was one of the best places about Franco’s; the waiting staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. There were a couple of small parties in on the same night, which normally slows smaller restaurants down, especially given that it’s a busy enough time of year anyway. But our orders were taken quickly enough and the food arrived pretty fast, too.

To start I went with the Pan fried scallops, red onion puree & saffron sauce and my friend Anna went with the Seared octopus with cannellini beans, sun dried tomatoes. The flavours combinations went together superbly and I even tried the octopus (I still don’t like it but can appreciate the cookery skill that it involved…) for the main course I had the classic lasagna whilst Anna went for the Pan fried sea bass with sautéed artichoke & new potatoes. I had to go with an Italian classic and wasn’t disappointed, the combo of pasta, bolognese and cheese really can’t be beaten and although Anna had the more refined main course I think I chose the best dishes!

Anna and I will both admit to having quite large appetites, so we were both impressed with the portion sizes, which were pretty generous!

If you like authentic Italian food and the hospitality that comes with it, you really can’ go far wrong with Franco’s. The staff were so nice and the restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. We left feeling absolutely stuffed and we’ve already recommended the place to a couple of foodie friends.

On the way out I talked to a waitress about their afternoon teas, so I think I’ll be taking my Mum along soon. If the scones and tea are as nice as the Italian, we’ll be pretty pleased! I’d recommend going at a quiet time to really enjoy the relaxed ambience of the place. With Christmas coming up, it can get quite busy during the evening. That said though, the service was pretty faultless even late in November, so I suppose it depends what you’re looking for.
